EEYM in Springfield Christmas Parade

EEYM in Springfield Christmas Parade

Emerald Empire Young Marines participated in the 61st Annual Springfield Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 14, 2013. As the weather cooperated after a week of ice and snow, thousands of families from Oregon communities lined the streets to watch the parade.

Representing Toys for Tots, the young marines handed out cups containing candy and small gifts to show appreciation for community participation in the Toys for Tots campaign.

Prior to and following the parade the EEYM members assisted members of the Marine Corps Reserve in the packaging and distribution  of gifts. The annual Toys for Tots toy distribution makes the Christmas season brighter for thousands of Oregon children.

From toddlers and two LTD buses transporting World War II veterans to fire trucks and wheelbarrows following horses, this was truly a small town paraded.

The Young Marines, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, DeMolay and youth from other organizations participated in the parade as they did their part to share the Christmas spirit.

Thurston and Springfield High School Bands marched and shared seasonal music.

Youngsters from the Willamette Leadership Academy marched with pride.

Local businesses and community organizations were all there to share in this annual Christmas event and of course the parade would not have been the same without Santa hitching a ride on a utility vehicle.

Oorah to Springfield, Oregon for this outstanding Christmas event.
